The
Core Functions of Reigate & Banstead Voluntary
Service
Reigate
& Banstead Voluntary Service works to the core functions of a
CVS as defined by NAVCA. These are set out below:
Services
and Support
The
CVS promotes the effectiveness of local voluntary and community
groups by providing them with a range of support services. One of the
key services we provide is through our Volunteer Centre, where we act
as broker, matching volunteers with local volunteering opportunities
and generally promoting volunteering in the Borough. Our other key
support areas include funding guidance, consultancy services,
start-up support, the provision of training workshops, and the
production and distribution of regular Newsletters and specialist
bulletins on Volunteering, Funding, and Training.
Liaison
As
a focal point for the local voluntary and community sector, the CVS
encourages networking between individuals and groups within the
sector, and between local groups and the statutory and private
sectors. This allows local groups to learn from one another,
establish contacts and work more effectively. We host bi-monthly
Network Lunches and twice yearly Forums.
Representation
With
government encouraging involvement of voluntary and community groups
in shaping and delivering services, the CVS helps enable the views of
local groups to be represented. The twice yearly Voluntary Sector
Forums provides an opportunity for local groups to put forward their
views on national and local policies. We also represent the local
voluntary sector with the Borough Council, County Council and in
meetings, forums and working groups which include both Government and
statutory bodies
Development
Work
Part
of our role is to take a lead in identifying gaps in local service
provision and to work with groups to develop new and innovative
services to meet these needs. We are currently working with community
groups to provide social support in the two areas of greatest
deprivation in our Borough, Merstham and Preston.
Strategic
Partnerships
The
CVS works in partnership with local government and other statutory
agencies to shape the delivery of services, sitting on such groups as
the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and the local crime reduction
panel (CDRP). We also play a key role in empowering local groups to
take part in partnerships and are directly involved in a wide range
of regeneration, neighborhood renewal, health and social care,
learning and other initiatives.
