Voluntary Sector Forum: Older People
Thursday 6th October, Reigate Town Hall, Castlefield Road, Reigate
Please note the date for the forum in Thursday 6th October and not the 14th October as previously published.
Our quarterly Forum will this time be focused on the needs of older people and those organisations who provide care and support for them. Special guests will be invited to lead on this area, but all are welcome to listen, put forward their views and experiences and debate issues raised. Further information and an invitation will follow in September, but if you have any queries or would like to contribute specifically to the discussion/raise an issue, please contact Carol.

Youth For Charity
A new initiative to encourage year 10 & 11 students in schools across Surrey to support local charities has been launched. Students will be asked to recommend charities for awards from a total fund of £20K, to fund anything from a new mini bus to help with medical care and so on. For more information or to add your charity to the list, go to: http://youthforcharity.blogspot.com/

Office Space Urgently Needed
First Steps urgently require office space for 3 members of staff within the Redhill/Reigate/Horley area.
1 member of staff is currently working a full time week, the other 2 work part time.  They are currently located in Woking and it is becoming increasingly impractical for staff (who cover the South East of the county) to carry out their roles effectively. They are willing to pay rent for desk space and a little storage, so please get in touch with us if you can help and we will pass on your offers.  Thank you!

Volunteer Projects Urgently Needed!
We have two teams of volunteers looking to support a project for a day in late September/October, preferably on an indoor project, such as DIY/decoration. If you have something these volunteers can help with, please contact the Volunteer Centre on 01737 762 115 or e-mail volunteer@rbcvs.org.uk .

Help Us to Help You - Transforming Local Infrastructure
Local infrastructure is the term used for the information, advice and support for Voluntary and Community Organisations.  Infrastructure services include things like: funding advice, governance advice, help with policies and procedures, help with developing services, providing up to date information on voluntary sector issues, training, networking, volunteer recruitment, representation and voice for the sector.

In Reigate & Banstead this service is provided by Reigate & Banstead Voluntary Service. Elsewhere in Surrey these services are provided by other local Voluntary Actions or CVS’s, Surrey Community Action (who provide generalist support), specialist infrastructure organisations that cover groups working with a particular client group such as youth or sport, and some regional and national organisations who mainly provide services online.  Some organisations also have their own umbrella body that gives infrastructure support.

With this number of providers there comes the potential for confusion as to who does what and there can be duplication between what the different providers are offering.

The Government is making a fund available to transform local infrastructure. This fund will enable current providers to come together to improve quality and to work more efficiently. However, to improve what we offer we need to know what support you need and how you would like it delivered.

How you can help.
We would be very grateful if you would fill in the following survey which will help support our application to this fund.

We have a very short deadline so would be grateful if you could return the survey by 22nd August 2011.

Volunteer Vacancy
The Merstham Community facility Trust has a vacancy for a Clerk to the Trustees. The clerk is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the Trustees. This post is based at the Community Facility in Merstham.

For full details please call the Volunteer centre on 01737 762115 or send us an e-mail.

Merstham Regeneration
Merstham residents are being invited to give their views on proposals by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Raven Housing Trust to regenerate the area in and around Portland Drive, by taking part in the public consultation which starts on Wednesday 10 August 2011.

So that residents can find out more, details of the proposals will be on display at the Merstham Community Facility between 10 August and 20 September 2011, during opening hours. There will also be a number of staffed sessions so that local people have the opportunity to talk to Borough Council and Raven staff and ask questions. Full details can be found here.

Therefore, we ask for your support, in providing us with details of any volunteer needs you may have for your events planned now or in the future throughout the year. To avoid disappointment please e-mail details well in advance.

Staff Changes at Reigate & Banstead Voluntary Service
We are pleased to announce that Carol Jennings has been appointed our Development and Administration Officer with immediate effect. Carol has been a member of our staff since October 2008 working on our administration. In that time she has developed her knowledge of the voluntary and community sector in the borough, often getting involved with our activities (such as the recent Volunteer Fair, the network lunches and forums) and supporting the work of our previous Development Officer, Helen Hawkins.

YMCA Youth Services: Volunteer Youth Workers Needed
Reigate & Redhill YMCA are looking for Volunteer Youth Workers to support their work at the Sovereign Centre. The newly developed Centre will host a number of activities for young people aged 11-19, primarily in the evenings. R&R YMCA Youth Services are looking for people who will actively participate and lead in some of these activities, engaging in face-to-face youth work and assisting in development of the service.

Volunteers will be provided with training but should have some experience and be willing to undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check (CRB check). They must be aged 18+, and be able to attend specific training dates in September and October. Whilst there will be more opportunities throughout the year to volunteer in this way, the closing date for this round of training is Saturday 20th August, which will be followed by interviews in late August (dates TBC). Home Visiting Basic Foot Care for Disabled People Across Surrey
The Surrey Disabled People’s Partnership are extending their existing foot care service which is now available to disabled adults across Surrey. In a statement issued this week, they say that many people take cutting their own toe nails for granted. However, there are many disabled people who are unable to do this and cannot access existing services.

For more information their web site has full details. Alternatively you can call them on 01483 750973 or send an e-mail.
